Kitting Out Team GB

jdpl had the pleasure of working alongside adidas to create the CompWear room at Team GB’s Kitting Out, set in the Birmingham NEC. ‘Kitting Out’ is a month long event where Olympic athletes collect everything they need before competing in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, from opening ceremony outfits to competition wear.
Usually the last room in the process, the CompWear room at Kitting Out is where athletes try on their competition wear before heading to the Olympic Games. However, due to pandemic circumstances, the CompWear room was predominantly used for display.
A dramatic display showcasing products from the lesser-known disciplines, using light tubes to highlight products and create interesting three-dimensional displays. Mannequins were elevated, referencing the Tokyo podium and the central display represented a fragmented union jack, designed to be viewed and photographed from all angles.
In line with the Team GB Kit Launch earlier this year, we carried through the lighting to create the warm glow of the Tokyo heat. The lighting was set on a 5 minute programme to switch from the hot orange / red colour palette to the cool blue and purple highlights of the Team GB kit.
Alongside the development and layout of the adidas CompWear room, jdpl worked with creative agency H+K to create a bespoke activation within the space. In line with the rest of the room and continuing from the ‘We Rise’ campaign, jdpl commissioned The Flash Pack to create a unique camera track to attract the Team GB athletes by the adidas brand, capturing content for their social feeds, ready for the podium in Tokyo.
The overall experience left athletes with excitement knowing that the next time they put on their competition wear will be when they are about to compete in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
